I'd been complaining about my bent wobbly (original) steel wheels for months. Now that TeeYah runs well, and all the parts are working, I wanted to be able to drive more than 45mpg without the constant shake, rattle, and roll.

After months of fruitless searching for non-bent, non-wobbly original wheels, I bit the bullet. Got four Minilite repros on sale at Moss.

Just arrived yesterday. Got my Kumho 758s switched to the new wheels, and decided this morning to see if there's any improvement.

All I can say is I think I died and went to heaven. What a difference. Won't say where I was when I did it ... but I cruised over 70mpg (oops - make that 70mph) and felt nary a blip. I could actually drive and feel little bumps and sticks on the asphalt for the first time since I've had the car.

Here's a view of TeeYah just after returning from the "victory" run about 10 minutes ago. I miss the "classic" original steel wheels and enamel hubcaps, but at least now I can safely drive.

Now that you don't need one, you'll probably run across plenty of used straight stock wheels.
 
Let me tell ya Tom, you keep looking at that car as it is today and the feelings about the steel wheels will pass sooner than you think!

That car looks better and better, every time that I see it!

For a guy who didn't know much about TRs when you bought it, I have to say you must be proud of what you have accomplished. I remember when you bought it. The previous owner was also on this forum quite a bit and I thought it was in better shape when you bought it.

It looks great. Like JR wrote above, you may find some straight steel wheels. If you do, keep at least 4 to keep the car looking original, should you ever sell it - or if you enter it in a national TRA or VTR concours.

And if you find extra straight and true wheels, let me know and I'll buy them from you.

I have a total of 9 steel wheels and I didn't offer any to you because I'm using the "best" four on the car and the rest are worse. I had the comparison made at a tire shop. But despite a vibration at 50 to 55 MPH with the best 4 wheels, it's as smooth as silk at 70 to 80 MPH. So I will keep them. And I'll drive outside the vibration zone - preferably the higher one. After VTR, I drove home (544 miles) in 8 driving hours. That calculates to an average of 67 MPH.

- Car looks mighty fine with those wheels on it and great news on the improvement...

...and at 70mpg(miles per gallon??) shouldn't take long to recoup your investment!

I just changed from 60 spoke painted wheels to 72 spoke chrome ones. Not only does the car look better, but that vibration at 53 mph has disappeared and it feels stable as a table at 72 mph.
 
It's looking great, Tom. It is such a good feeling when the car is running smoothly like that.
Like Don, I still get a bit of a wobble at about 60, but I can drive through it.

Now that you got the wobbles out the next thing you'll want is a supercharger and an overdrive.
