Died and gone to heaven

I'd been complaining about my bent wobbly (original) steel wheels for months. Now that TeeYah runs well, and all the parts are working, I wanted to be able to drive more than 45mpg without the constant shake, rattle, and roll.

After months of fruitless searching for non-bent, non-wobbly original wheels, I bit the bullet. Got four Minilite repros on sale at Moss.

Just arrived yesterday. Got my Kumho 758s switched to the new wheels, and decided this morning to see if there's any improvement.

All I can say is I think I died and went to heaven. What a difference. Won't say where I was when I did it ... but I cruised over 70mpg (oops - make that 70mph) and felt nary a blip. I could actually drive and feel little bumps and sticks on the asphalt for the first time since I've had the car.

Here's a view of TeeYah just after returning from the "victory" run about 10 minutes ago. I miss the "classic" original steel wheels and enamel hubcaps, but at least now I can safely drive.

Good on you, Tom.

Now that you don't need one, you'll probably run across plenty of used straight stock wheels.

Let me tell ya Tom, you keep looking at that car as it is today and the feelings about the steel wheels will pass sooner than you think!

That car looks better and better, every time that I see it!

Congrats and keep it up!

For a guy who didn't know much about TRs when you bought it, I have to say you must be proud of what you have accomplished. I remember when you bought it. The previous owner was also on this forum quite a bit and I thought it was in better shape when you bought it.

It looks great. Like JR wrote above, you may find some straight steel wheels. If you do, keep at least 4 to keep the car looking original, should you ever sell it - or if you enter it in a national TRA or VTR concours.

And if you find extra straight and true wheels, let me know and I'll buy them from you.

I have a total of 9 steel wheels and I didn't offer any to you because I'm using the "best" four on the car and the rest are worse. I had the comparison made at a tire shop. But despite a vibration at 50 to 55 MPH with the best 4 wheels, it's as smooth as silk at 70 to 80 MPH. So I will keep them. And I'll drive outside the vibration zone - preferably the higher one. After VTR, I drove home (544 miles) in 8 driving hours. That calculates to an average of 67 MPH.

- Car looks mighty fine with those wheels on it and great news on the improvement...

...and at 70mpg(miles per gallon??) shouldn't take long to recoup your investment!

(sorry couldn't resist)

I just changed from 60 spoke painted wheels to 72 spoke chrome ones. Not only does the car look better, but that vibration at 53 mph has disappeared and it feels stable as a table at 72 mph.

It's looking great, Tom. It is such a good feeling when the car is running smoothly like that.
Like Don, I still get a bit of a wobble at about 60, but I can drive through it.
I like the look of your sheds too!!

Hey, Tom has two sheds!

Nice Wheels Tom!

Now that you got the wobbles out the next thing you'll want is a supercharger and an overdrive.

Hey, Tom has two sheds!

Isn't that Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson?

Again:

Quote:] Third Interviewer: Last week the Royal Festival Hall saw the first performance of a new symphony by one of the world's leading modern composers, Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson. Mr Jackson.

Jackson: Good evening.

Third Interviewer: May I just sidetrack for one moment. Mr. Jackson, this, what shall I call it, nickname of yours.

Jackson: Ah yes.

Third Interviewer: 'Two sheds'. How did you come by it?

Jackson: Well, I don't use it myself, it's just a few of my friends call me 'Two Sheds'.

Third Interviewer: I see, and do you in fact have two sheds?

Jackson: No. No, I've only one shed. I've had one for some time, but a few years ago I said I was thinking of getting another one, and since then some people have called me 'Two Sheds'.

Third Interviewer: In spite of the fact that you only have one.

Jackson: Yes.

Third Interviewer: I see, and are you thinking of purchasing a second shed?

Jackson: No!

Third Interviewer: To bring you in line with your epithet?

Jackson: No.

Third Interviewer: I see, I see. Well let's return to your symphony. Ah, now then, did you write this symphony...in the shed?

Jackson: No!

Third Interviewer: Have you written any of your recent works in this shed of yours?

Jackson: No it's just a perfectly ordinary garden shed.

A picture of a shed appears on the screen behind them.

Third Interviewer: I see. And you're thinking of buying this second shed to write in.

Jackson: No, no. Look. This shed business, it doesn't really matter at all, the sheds aren't important. It's just a few friends call me Two Sheds and that's all there is to it. I wish you'd ask me about my music. I'm a composer. People always ask me about the sheds, they've got it out of proportion, I'm fed up with the shed, I wish I'd never got it in the first place.

Third Interviewer: I expect you are probably thinking of selling one.

Jackson: I will sell one. [/QUOTE]

And so on.

And here is the "Two Sheds" bit in all it's glory! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif
