I am Anton from Vienna Austria.
Driving older cars since ever, as dayly driver. As I was still a boy (about 20) had my first british car, an old Morris Oxford with a diesel engine, took me a lot of work to keep it somehow running, but was astonishing comfortable to me. Then had a few more of them as well as some Austin Cambriges. Finally an Rover 2000TC, which was nice to drive but very unreliable. When I started honestly working, got company cars. Later, when I was on my own used German cars, VW, Audi and now Mercedes. But when I was still very young, I met a guy with a car never seen before, an Vandenplas 4L. Since then, was dreaming to own one some day. So tomorrow will go to France to have a look at one of those cars and was thinking to join a forum where other members might know that kind of cars, and might let me know which parts I will haveI to especially look and examine tomorrow. I am 70 plus, that's why I am not looking for a car in England, because I am to old to get used of a right hand drive car.
Thanks to all of yo and best regards from Vienna, Anton

I've never seen much of an upgrade to a Vandenplas from a standard Jaguar.
Nearly all Jaguars come with Connolly leather, lots of real burl-wood and the Jaguar driving experience.

Thank you for the reply. I am looking for points I will have to especially check when visiting that car. Thank you and regards Anton

A lovely car and rare. Looks like the issues are the usual ones - Rust, scarcity of parts and I presume expensive (leather) interiors.

Thank you for the reply.
Yes, it is, I was there, found everything stable and well treated. the leather is dry, but nowhere destroyed. Tere are very ugly speakers in both frontdoors, the plus sign in the back is broken, the left front fender was bumped, the sunroof is not moving, interieur woodlands needs sanding and painting, engine sounds good, works fine, but at idle it is not completely regular, automatic gearbox runs well, but only when the oil is warm, brakes were working fine, steering too, speedometer is not showing anything.
But I decided to buy it, it was 6000€.
Will fetch it in July, and will start the first test in driving 1200km to my home in Vienna. Meanwhile all the oil, engine, automatic and differencial will be changed, incl. filters, then I will get a new battery and four new tires. Then I hope to go well back to Vienna. Meanwhile will check which spare parts are available. Forgot, the cloth on the headliner is destroyed, think I will not be able to fix that myselve.
So, I am already excited if I will reach home and also which surprises are awaiting me.
Thank you for the answer, regards Anton.⁴I

Welcome from France, Anton.
Where in France is the car?
Do you have any photos?
You are a brave man to undertake a long trip in an unknown car.
Bonne chance et bon courage.

It is located in Marcigny.
I left the car there, it was brought to a workshop, because I wanted to kno abot rust from down ( that was a problem at that time - but it wa well cared and not rusty. I left the car in the workshop, they will change all oils (engine, automatic, and diff. incl. filters). the car was standing in a garage since some years, so I will have new tires and a new battery. Evebntually will have fixed a minor bump at the left front fender (depends on the offer).
Got some photos - they are attached.
Tx for the interest. Regards, Anton

Right now, I am looking for a speedometer cable, that is broken, but would be handy in going back.
Did not find any in British Ebay, (hope ther is no difference in lengt, because it's a left hand, and I think in England I will only get for right hand.
If you have a hint wher I could look, would be great.
Tx and regards, Anton

Lovely car!

Kip Motors in the USA sells parts for these cars. You might find easier (cheaper) parts in England but, the do deal with Left Hand Drive
