datsun 210 5 speed rear seal won't stay in trans.

Ok, so the vent tube is fine. I originally purchased the correct seal - according to the rivergate instructions - from NAPA. That leaves that I installed the seal improperly. I can live with that. When I installed it, I used a wood dowel the same diameter as the seal and tapped it into place. I'm sure I checked the fit to make sure it was seated without distortion. I will pickup a new seal from the Nissan dealer. Is there a better, or more correct way to install the new seal? Thanks for all the input.

Absolutely not. I stock and supply factory Nissan seals (w/o flange) with my kits. They fit properly and have never had a complaint, regardless of the oil used. My guess is that whatever you got was not correct tolerance. A lot of aftermarket stuff is like that these days.
I tried to purchase a seal at the local Nissan dealer today. he told me that they did not stock it, and could not source one. Anyone have a source for a genuine Nissan seal, Gerard - online- anyone?

He probably didn't want to order you just one, and yes, they are not a stocked item with Nissan. I buy them 10 or 20 at a time. I stock them, but it's going to be expensive by the time you pay shipping and my costs. I buy them at retail and pay sales tax on them too. It's a 20 mile round trip each time I need to restock.

You can let me know offline (PM or direct email) if you want to go that route.
