Dang! Starter went out!

thanks jlaird. i didn't think that there would be a problem in polarity. hey guys so I went ahead and bought the isuzu trooper starter. I was able to find the one under part/frame number 17155 at autozone. it was a little more expensive than the 16XXX starter because its more rare. I haven't installed it yet, but i'll keep posting here once i crank the baby.

Abe,

I'm anxious to hear the results once you've got it installed and cranking.

Does any one know if the Izusu starter works with the RiverGate 5 Speed Datsun conversion?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Well Bill, I abandoned the idea. I started a different thread on the matter. Apparently even though i had the correct frame/part number, i still didn't have the correct starter because i had a hitachi and not the nippondenso. I had clearance issues between the starter and the engine block. The bolt holding the solenoid onto the starter was hitting up against the engine block. My brother who took a look at it as well said he doens't think thats the issue. He said that their maybe other clearance problems.

My bro and i ended up returning the starter because we thought that if we too it to a machine shop, it would cost us about the same to just buy one already flanged to fit this car specifically. i bought one from brit bits for 190.

check out the other thread, i think there maybe some other information on that one. I haven't done the datsun conversion myself so i wouldn't be able to answer your question.

Abe,

Thanks for the feedback. For the difference of about $100 I think I'll just play it safe and buy the $190 "super" starter that Rivergate sells and guarantees that it works with their 5 speed ket conversion.

Cheers,
Bill
