After last week's latest breakdown, I removed
DPO Pedro's complete broken down fuel system
from the car and replaced it with my own:


I feel much safer now and less prone to more breakdowns.

I am stunned ! The 6 million dollar fuel system.
 
Those are some fancy read clamps Dale! Much better than the soft copper lines too.
 
My word I thought you'd gone -AN all through for a minute. I know (from bitter experience) how much it costs and how overkill it is for the TR carb system.

Looks nice. I'm sure you'll be much happier with it...

You are OFF jackstands now, right?
 
I dunno, Dale, ya got enough filters???

Make sure you secure that gas line that you have going atop the thermostat housing. Braided or not, you don't want it to inadvertently getting too close to that pulley.
 
One thing I found when I redid my setup jooi.

You can run the line along the crossmember under the engine and bring it up by the fron of the passenger side engine mounts. It's just right for the back carb there. It also takes it away from the moving stuff and the (hot) water lines at the front of the car.

It's a lot further from the exhaust than you'd think, and if you use hardline it is pretty safe - they run the brake line across there...

Nothing about the Crypt Car is ever easy, now is it?

With the gas tank low on fuel, the driver's front wheel
off and the car on a jack stand, I can access the sand
filter.

On the other hand, at two tanks of fuel used per year,

how often will I need to change out the sand filter??

Ah, yes. Ever the optimist. Just plan on getting back on the horse and riding again. OK, cowboy?
 
I hope that you also fitted the Ethanol converter that is required with newly renovated fuel systems. As you know, it is installed just behind the flux capacitor.

It is really odd to me that I have put so very
much time and money into this auto and after
almost a year and a half of concentrated effort
the car still can't manage to go 30 miles without
breaking down.

I now have a truly beautiful, nicely amateur restored,
Brit sportscar that is no more reliable today than it
was the day DPO Pedro sold it to my wife Wendy.

This really puzzles me. I still have less than 10 hours
on the street drive time.

Blargh!!

I'd like nothing better than racking up a
few miles. But there seems to be no end
of very brief trips and then major breakdowns
from new DPO Pedro half a$$ed repairs.

Maybe this next atempt will yield over 50 miles before breakdown??

Dale, your still 'shaking it down'. Which is not a time of ownership thing but time on the road thing. You've almost replaced everything that could need to be shaken down though so you should be seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

Start in slowly expanding circles of greater and greater distances. 5, 10, 20, 50 miles etc... After that you can make bigger mileage jumps to gauge reliablilty. Soon, you'll be driving all over your island without a thought.

If those filters have glass bowls, I would replace them with non glass bowls. Or carry a 5lb fire extinguisher!
