Crypty's New Fuel System

Roofman- yes, the filter after the new fuel pump
is a glass cylinder model. The primary filter is
before the pump and is conventional solid metal.

Because the Crypt Car breaks down so often, I am
using the glass filter to be able to quickly diagnose
if the breakdown is due to lack of fuel- ie another
busted, non-functioning fuel pump. If I see gasoline,
I know the breakdown is from something else.

Yes, I always carry a 10# fire extinguisher in the
trunk but I'm thinking of moving it behind my seat.

thanks as always,

d

The glass in those filters is a lot stronger than you might think, plus, it will resist more heat than plastic or metal. As long as Dale doesn't try to 'dribble' the glass on the road side it will be fine (even then they still might take a bounce or two). If the o-rings are in good shape, and should be replaced whenever the filter is opened up, they hold fuel just fine. I use them on both of my TR's and have never had a problem.

Once upon a time, fuel pumps used to have glass bowls on them so you could verify fuel flow. They were not discontinued because of safety concerns but rather because of cost.
