General Tech CRANK SPROCKET SHIMS

Is it normal to need .037 in shims behind the crank sprocket to get it to line up with the cam sprocket or am I doing something wrong?

Are your crank and cam endplay to spec?

It's good that you checked the alignment. Many builders would have missed it! But, +1 for doing what it takes to get perfect alignment. Be sure the cam is seated fully against the block and not stopped against a lifter or the rear cam galley plug.

If position and end play are right, use whatever thickness it takes. The Moss catalog mentions a procedure found in the service manual, which might add confidence.
