Spitfire Crank Journal Size for Spitfires

I was very surprised to see the old thread/topic surface again. I am glad you have made progress with the block. Are those the caps I sent a while back? It would be nice to know they are doing someone some good!
 
Can't wait to see pics of the motor installed.....nice to see that things are on the move again....
 
I have to ask because I don't think it was mentioned before; when you are installing and tightening the caps, are you seating them all the way down before tightening? Are you seating them with both bolts a little at a time or are you tightening one bolt all the way down to spec and then the other?

Fully seated by hand, and then tighten the bolts alternating in three stages - it's been a while and I haven't checked the book, but I think it's 20 ft-lbs, 40 ft-lbs and then final torque

I don't remember, my wife might know better. I know we had ended up with two sets at one time, but one set was for the 2.0" main, and one for the 2.3". Whether we used yours or not though, we definitely appreciate them, and the others will be free to anyone who needs them as well. :smile:
 
After measuring every nook and cranny with a micrometer and brandishing it threateningly, taking pictures of the readings and running them through the calculator 4 or 5 times, the crank is now installed, the main bearing caps are still in one piece (each) and the crank (with no pistons installed) turns freely by hand on its bed of engine assembly lube.
