My 77 B has the "crack of doom" on the passenger door (right by the side window frame attachment point). The door is also a little high, in the rear, so it does not close well. I can press down on the rear of the door and see the top door gap, between the door and the front fender, open and the top hinge flex. It appears the same on both sides but only one side is cracked. I know how to remove the hinge (remove the splash guard in the wheel well, the securing bolt from behind, and then the screws). Question is before I do that, is there a bushing or "wear" element in the hinge that goes bad, or do the hinges just normally flex somewhat? My guess is that I can loosen the hinge screws and get some movement out of the whole assembly to help alignment. I am going to weld the crack and don't want it coming back.
