Control head question

I need to purchase a new control head for my Tr-3
my question is.
Moss $209.00 and $43.95 for the wire harness = $252.95 + shipping
T.R.F. On sale $177.50 looks like it comes with the harness ... does it? If not $39.95 on sale = $217.45 + shipping.
The real question is .... Is there a difference in quality?
Is the Moss control head worth the extra money?

B.T.W. according to their catalog V.B. was out of the ball park price wise.

Anyone know for sure which is the better product?

Aloha Kerry,

I would suggest you contact TRF either by phone or e-mail their customer service and ask them. I recently inquired about a rear dog leg body panel by e-mail and received a response the next day. It probably would have been quicker, but we had a six hour time difference.

I would suspect but can not be certain that there is probably one maker of the control head so they are more or less equal.

Is the one for your car missing? I ask because they can be repaired. Here is a link to a excellent article written by Clive Elsdon. It describes disassembly in great detail with plenty of photos included. Reassembly is not described but just work back wards. It is the fourth article down in the archives, "Disassembling the Control Head in the steering column"

https://www.tr-register.com.au/files/technical.htm

Good luck.

Thanks to my sister {long story} the original was sold for ?
{some here know what the ? means}
In any case at best I have a few bit and pieces from the last time I repaired the original but not enough to make a complete unit.

Current sale price from TRF is even lower than that shown in the web catalog. Until next 11/14, the non-adjustable is $130, adjustable $135.

I've seen them, and seen people using them, the TRF version seems to work great. If the Moss version is better, I don't see how. (And as noted, they are almost certainly from the same source. The control heads were NLA for many years, then suddenly both vendors had them at the same time.)

Be sure to get the one that matches your steering wheel, tho.

If your spare parts include the outer Bakelite ring, let me know if you'd like to sell it. I've got several of them that are complete except for that ring.

You should be aware that Moss is probably the largest LBC parts supplier worldwide. Although Charles (TRF) has many bits and pieces manufactured special for his company, Moss actually supplies many of the most commonly used parts. I would not be surprised if TRF buys the control head from Moss.
