I posted earlier about the clutch pedal seeming to stick when I release the pedal. Could it be the throw out bearing not sliding on the shaft? How can I check this?

With the engine not running the clutch seems to work ok, but with the engine running the pedal seems to be catching on something. The pedal will come part way and then feels rough. It is almost impossible to engage the clutch smoothly.

I don't know if I described the problem correctly but I hope you get my drift.

Check the cross pin at the end of the push rod coming out the front of the master cylinder. I may have become worn oval in the hole where it is actuated by the clutch pedal arm.

Did you recently have work done to the clutch? If you don't put the alignment pins, and bolts back in place the it will bind on you. At least I know it will on a TR6

I replaced the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing when I rebuilt the engine. I "think" I got everything aligned and back in place. I followed the Bently manual.

You can use the alignment tool to get things back together but you have to have the two pressure plate alignment pins in place or it will bind when you release the pedal. If you give it a little more RPM and you let the clutch slip you can smooth it out, but you will glaze the pressure plate and flywheel, not to mention burn up the clutch disc. The bell housing should also have two pins or special alignment bolts that have to be in the right place.

You could remove the tunnel cover and install the alignment dowels and see if the "sticky clutch problem" goes away. That might save pulling the trans. Berry
