clutch question

Well, I may have screwed up.

What would be the symptoms if I put the clutch disc in backwards?

I replaced the transmission in my midget today. This is a 1275 with ribcage. While I was at it I replaced the oil pump, which meant I had to pull the clutch off. I set the disc and pressure plate aside as I took it off with the disc still in the pressure plate. I don't remember changing the orientation between the disc and pressure plate, but am getting older so who knows what I might have done. I know I did not check the orientation when I put it back, I just picked up the whole assembly.

After assembling everything my clutch pedal releases a lot higher than before. There is almost no free play at all.

So, is it likely I put the disc in backwards, or is there something else wrong?

Thanks,
Jeff

If the clutch releases at all then you didn't put it in backwards. You may want to press the clutch slave in as far as it will go and pump it a few times to let it find its proper position and if it still feels strange you may need to readjust the clutch master-to-peddle rod.
