OK so im having a weird problem with Nigel.

sometimes when i shift into fourth the clutch peddle comes up just as normal
but the clutch doesnt fully disengage. then after a second its fine . this doesnt happen all the time only once in a while. also what fluid goes in the clutch mc?

thanks Ray

If you are not disengaging, either MC might be sticking. You should use Castrol LMA to top off reservoir.

I just checked and i do need to top off the Clutch MC im just wondering should i plan on replacing the Clutch MC over the winter?

If unsure of the age of it or last time of rebuild, I would. It's really simple to do as well as the Slave cylinder. Hard lines get seize up a bit so be carefull. Also the real trick is bleading the system.

I'm a bit confuzzled over the term "disengage"... that would mean the opposite of your description of the problem. Look to replacing the flex hose as part of the job. I'd say do that FIRST if the clutch seems to NOT engage fully on pedal release.

UPDATE

so i filled up the master, pumped the clutch ( very hard peddle) it did not want to engage backed out of the driveway put it in first went to grab second and no peddle back pressure at all, and wouldnt engage the clutch

so i pushed it home and into the garage now i have a blown slave cylinder (fluid coming out the front seal) *sigh* was that my problem all along or did i just make things worse by filling up the fluid?

thanks a dejected Ray

oh and thanks for the tip about the hose ill get a new one with the slave

gor. One step at a time now. Fix the hydraulics, it's not as difficult as it may seem. Have you a Bentley's or Haynes manual?

Haynes and i have a PM into tony so i can order the parts i need

Thanks Doc.

Keep us posted.

I would suggest that you found your problem, fix it and you are golden.

Hehe, thought of that but could not bring myself to ask it.

yes the spring is there and it brings the peddle back. but the clutch "slips"

only sometimes

but now since i screwed it up the clutch doesnt work at all

i think i made a small problem into a medium size problem.

Naa, new or rebuilt slave cylinder is the ticket, it prob has been seeping for awile.

Yup. An MGB is very straightforward. Spridgets are the awkward ones.

No trick it is just a real pain to get it done properly.

However, a vacum pump works preaty well, suck it through.

Twists advice on bleeding the clutch slave...

"Bleeder out, use finger, for first five bleeds. Finger off, pedal down, finger on, pedal up, wait 20 SECONDS... then repeat. After five strokes, brake fluid will gush from the bleeder hole. Replace the bleeder (instead of the finger) and bleed several more times, quickly. All done."

I've done it several times, it works.

great thanks for the tip

ill post an update when my parts arrive from Tony

Thanks for the help everybody

Most of the time when you get a new slave cyl for a mgb the bleeder is in the wrong hole. It ships easier that way. Be sure that the bleeder faces the right side of the car and not the front. When the flex line goes bad from the inside it will not release fluid fast enough. Then when you pumped the pedal pressure kept building up in the slave cylinder and pushing the piston further out till it blew. That also explains why you had a slipage problem. Start soaking the steel line where it goes into the flex line with a wd 40 type product. The nut tends to stick to the steel line and that may help. Good luck. Bob
