TR2/3/3A Change of pace on TR3 Resto

You have done a lovely job there. I imagine that leather is much more difficult to apply than vinyl. The crinkle finish looks great too.
I failed with crinkle on both of my TRs.

Thank you Nick. I've never worked with vinyl (this is my first resto), but I'm beginning to think that leather is more forgiving and easier to work with. To me, the leather has seems very stretchable. If you really need to stretch the leather, some water and heat will make it do just about anything you want. Look at the picture I posted above of the dash. Look at the U-shaped area where the steering column goes. That was all streched and prodded into position.

As far as the wrinkle (crinkle) finish goes, I think the trick is to heat the paint after application to get the maximum amount of wrinkle. After I painted the center dash facia, I stuffed it in the oven in the kitchen...yes, momma was out at the time. It only stunk a little bit.

It took me three tries on the wrinkle paint, but a 1200W hair dryer did the trick for me. You can kind of vary the "wrinklage" by getting closer and further...

Art,

Did you do your own gauges? They look brand new.

I did the krinkle finish about 3 or 4 times on my center control panel over about 46 years and then in 2004, I stopped in at Frank Thomas's place in Virgina on the way home and I bought a very nice panel in krinkle finish that he had done with krinkle powder coating. It still looks great.

Don,
I think you are thinking about Fred Thomas? He has a great red TR3A, plus a few other things.... I have one of his powdercoated gauge panels as well. Nicely done.

Art, very nice work and thanks for taking the time to show the photos!
