Can 2/3 to 3/4 quart low on trans fluid cause the over drive to cut in and out under acceleration?
I checked and found I was low yesterday, filled it and went for a drive. Surprise, when you check and maintain the fluid level how good the car works.

Before I filled the trans the car was hard to shift into 3 and 4 sometimes. And under acceleration it felt like the overdrive was trying to shift into and out of gear without turning it on. I thought the clutch was slipping.

The car ran so good yesterday I wounder if low fluid could cause all that? Or is it just that the car always drives better in cold weather.

Thanks for your thoughts

You have answered your own question I think, since the box holds 7.5 US pints and you put in around 1.5 pints you were 20% down, the system relies on oil pressure to engage the overdrive, which could not be maintained. The set up may require checking and you can find out how to do that in the manual.
