Carb heat shield

Hi folks, been away a while. Long story. Anyhoo, I need to replace my B's wrist pin bearings and that brings my "might as well list" right to the surface. I have searched the archives and can't find the info, but I recall posts previously about a young guy who had fabricated great carb heat shields, can someone steer me towards him?
Thanks, Mike

Just glad you're back!

...I been thinkin' I'd like one of those too. Not sure where to find one so will keep an eye on this thread.

Wrist pins? You're right down in th' piddly bits!

Yup. Had a noise that only I could hear (you know me, the MG Whisperer) so I waited until the smart half could hear it too. Brought it to an unnamed garage who drove it and put it up on the lift but determined it to be sheet metal, in fact told me "Don't worry about it, just drive it". Got louder and brought it to a shop that advertises in our local car club mag. Young guy drove it about 3 minutes and said "bearing". Sure enough pull plug #4 and rattle stops. They gave me a worst case of $3K labor, but I would get back a blueprinted machined engine. Called my buddy that owned a rebuilding business for years and he said I could do it myself and he'd be happy to offer spiritual guidance.
So to your point.... ayuh I'm so far beyond my capabilities that it makes me giggle. But as I've learned from youse guys here, help is just a keypad away. Just got the GT6 frame back from blasting and priming, so once the B's put to bed I get back to the GT.
Good to hear from you, Doc.

All this stuff is basic physics. Some tools are part of th' equation but a hammer and some drifts can work in a pinch!!! :jester:

...you can CALL me, Mike!!!

Well I vote for the replacment heatshield, I gewt mine form Gordon at the B hive, but I think it;s the same unit Moss and other sell, I'm assumming you are still running twin SUs, I use a fair amount fo them in my SU carb rebuilding, they are nicely gold cad plated with new insulation pads on them, IMHO, not worth trying to refurbish an old worn out , most seem to crack around the carb mounting holes anyway over time.

May need to call Gordon. DCOE seems to be ethanol fouled to the point it'll need boiling out to clear it. The SU's are sittin' here starin' me in th' face.

Doc, I've seen your garage. Your SU's ain't all that's staring you in the face, time to get rid of that dang 1998 calender while yer at it. Once I get done seeing what the damage is, I'll be able to see whether I will replace my shield or not, if I do I'll take Hap's advise and call Gordon also.

mehheh... that calendar is now UPDATED to a 2008 one! :smirk:

..and th' Elan is no longer BURIED.
