Car shopping time...

My 50 Ford Pickemup still runs, 30 some odd years after I bought it.
The OHC Subarus were initially a PITA.
Lifters made noise....two timing belts, always broke the one on the distributor side first.
Water pump behind it...always change it when apart.
Lifters never were..always oil pressure. Take the pump (front) apart and re-o-ring it.
Take the engine out every 4 years and re-seal it.
Fun.
New seals, gaskets, pull the case apart just enough to clean the anaerobic sealer out and put a bead of new and bolt it back together again.
All the work we had to do on them, I'd never own a Subaru....but, I remember the first ones...suBARu.
Downhill with a tailwind, 50MPH, maybe.

Done deal, just agreed to purchase a 2009 Hyundai Accent tonight... $8K for a car with 56,000 kilometres on it, paid a little more then I wanted to but this car should have lots of life left in it... Of course it's a stick shift! :hammer:

It should definitely get better gas mileage than my Subaru Legacy...

No Walter... That old International 4x4 would be a great truck, don't want to know the gas mileage... :rolleye:

Excellent, congratulations! Should give you many miles of good service.

"And don't they get something like 35 MPG?

- Doug"

If it is falling off a cliff maybe.

Nice, Walt!!!

And in the meantime I'm a twit...

My old Subaru that just died is a Canadian model with a Japanese market high performance engine, modified turbo, performance transmission and clutch, etc... Which means difficult to repair, why I didn't do this last repair...

Anyway... I went about three weeks without a roadworthy car, meantime the Subaru was parked on the street beside a local garage with valid plates... Once I purchased the Hyundai I had to decide what to do with license plates, I didn't want to to consign the Subaru (with performance parts) simply to a scrapyard, and had posted it on a local Subaru club forum, had interest from three people who have suddenly become lukewarm...

Back to Thursday... My local mechanic went on a vacation so I couldn't contact last Thursday and Friday, when I dropped by on Friday afternoon with all the Hyundai paperwork I did see one of his employees in the shop, talked to him and he thought it would be okay to park the Subaru off public roads inside the yard as I was about to switch plates... My other option would have been to park the Subaru on the road still showing current plates but technically uninsured, but no one would likely care outside a garage, then get new plates for the Hyundai, then when I would sell the Subaru I just had to return those plates for a refund of fees on that plate... I went with option A

When I called Sam this morning (first day back from vacation) he was mad at me for parking the Subaru inside his rather cramped yard and wanted it gone "right now", I had been hoping for a week of parking to try to sell the Subaru, long story short, to keep the peace with him as I want to still deal with him in the future, I allowed him to tow the car away to some local scrapyard, what a waste of performance parts, and since this morning I've had two people express interest, to at least save the Subaru from a scrapyard...

This whole soap opera is my biggest regret of the last three weeks, I was hoping to get the Subaru into good hands, instead... *sigh* :frown-new: Yes I know it's only a car, but still... :crushed:

And now no one seems to even want the car... Three days later it's still sitting in that same spot at the shop, but still no takers, I'll sell it for next to nothing just to keep it out of the scrapyard, but can't keep it at the local shop for too long... I really thought someone would be interested, especially at a rather low price, with a little work this particular Subaru is an excellent performance sedan and lots of fun... I'm rather confused right now...

The only reason I'm saying that is because this Subaru has special performance parts in it, I had a guy offer me $100 for it two days ago, haven't heard from him since, I'd sell it for $100 just to avoid the scrapyard... If it was a normal plain jane Legacy I wouldn't be saying this... I called one local independent Subaru garage (the guys who built this car) and they thought that the value as is - with required repairs, plus the performance parts - could be as much as $1,000... I had one person suggest a price of $500 last weekend, never heard back from him either...

What's it need?

I'm confused, I thought he scrapped it?

I gave him permission to haul it away on Monday morning, just to appease him, now it's Thursday evening and it's still parked there in the same spot... I'm about to call one guy who might be interested in the car... *crosses fingers* Also a co-worker might be interested...

Finally sold the Subaru about an hour ago, didn't get much for it, didn't expect to... But the young guy who bought knows all about working with them, I think it went to a good home... Certainly not a scrapyard...
