The original "The Fast and The Furious" about a guy who kidnaps a gal drving a xk120 to a race it ends up in the race anyway, lots of 50s classics. On the Beach has a good racing scene and is a good movie.
Of those already mentioned I really liked The Worlds Fastest Indian Indian and the Bank Job. Viva Las Vegas really has a good selection of cars and Ann Margaret in her prime, hubba hubba.
State Fair has a good race and Ann Margaret too!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the original "Italian Job" (the Michael Caine one), I seem to recall somewhere that the E type they pushed off the cliff was a very early production one, possibly one of the first 100 or so? I also seem to recall someone in England tried restoring that car in the late 1980s.

On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.
No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.
The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets.
Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground until a DVD release a few years ago.

If you like slapstick English comedy there's the '62 movie 'The Fast Lady'. It's about a guy who wants to learn to drive to impress a girl so he buys a Speed Six Bentley from a fast talking used car salesman. He gets taken and pays a ridiculously 'high' price of ÂŁ500! (this was 1962 after all) it's a silly movie but great for car spotters.

I forgot about Christine! Best theme song ever - Bad to the Bone.
I also liked Heart Like a Wheel and don't know why it slipped my mind since I recently bought the DVD. The DVD has interviews with the real-life Shirley Muldowney and Don Garlits.

Agreed, The Fastest Indian has got to one of the great motorcycle movies.
For cult classics, you can't beat "Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill" A TR3, MGA, MGB and a Porsche 956 are all featured. Along with strippers, implied lesbianism, murder and mayhem. Fun for the whole family.
