Car porn - any advice on good car movies?

Being a old Healey fan, I also cried when the bad guys bashed that Healey up in that recent brit movie (Can't remember the name right now). It was actually kind of shocking that any Healey owner would let them do it.

The Bank Job... With Jason Stratham.

The boys are planning an evening dedicated to watching good car-videos. Are TR6s starring in any movies? Other suitable movies I should look for? Recommendations?

"The Green Helmet" this is a rather obscure 1961 British flick revolving around the Mille Miglia. It has some nice footage of Silverstone. This film appears maybe once a year on TCM.

Another one worth watching is "Smash Palace".
Great scene with the formula car on a public highway.
Filmed in Australia or New Zealand.

The original "The Fast and The Furious" about a guy who kidnaps a gal drving a xk120 to a race it ends up in the race anyway, lots of 50s classics. On the Beach has a good racing scene and is a good movie.

Of those already mentioned I really liked The Worlds Fastest Indian Indian and the Bank Job. Viva Las Vegas really has a good selection of cars and Ann Margaret in her prime, hubba hubba.

State Fair has a good race and Ann Margaret too!

The original Italian Job.

Yes yes yes yes yes! This is till one of the best, if not THE best car chase scene ever, wonderful cars, lots of action, comedy, and a stellar cast.

Highly recommended! This movie belongs in any car-buff's collection.
Black armband time when the mob puts the cars over the cliff. "Preeeeeety car" - grrrrr.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the original "Italian Job" (the Michael Caine one), I seem to recall somewhere that the E type they pushed off the cliff was a very early production one, possibly one of the first 100 or so? I also seem to recall someone in England tried restoring that car in the late 1980s.

On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.

The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets.

Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground until a DVD release a few years ago.

That's correct, the red E-Type OTS (848 CRY) was reported to be the 12 E-Type built, it was restored by Philip Porter in the 90's, and he still owns it today. It also had a racing history, supposedly it was the first E-Type to be raced.

If you like slapstick English comedy there's the '62 movie 'The Fast Lady'. It's about a guy who wants to learn to drive to impress a girl so he buys a Speed Six Bentley from a fast talking used car salesman. He gets taken and pays a ridiculously 'high' price of ÂŁ500! (this was 1962 after all) it's a silly movie but great for car spotters.

I forgot about Christine! Best theme song ever - Bad to the Bone.

I also liked Heart Like a Wheel and don't know why it slipped my mind since I recently bought the DVD. The DVD has interviews with the real-life Shirley Muldowney and Don Garlits.

There was an older movie called "Diner" There was a red TR3 yhat one of the actors drove. All I really remember is that they pushed the TR on its side to fake an accident. But when they drove away there was no damage.

A feel good movie called "FLYWHEEL"
Not really a movie for guys night, but a white TR3A is on the cover. You can rent it at Blockbuster!

that was great. thanks. i was able to get to paris once and "walked" many of the streets shown. pigeons didn't get out of my way so fast.

Highly recommend "The Bank Job", at least 2 TR3s.

Agreed, The Fastest Indian has got to one of the great motorcycle movies.

For cult classics, you can't beat "Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill" A TR3, MGA, MGB and a Porsche 956 are all featured. Along with strippers, implied lesbianism, murder and mayhem. Fun for the whole family.

Hi Folks,

Personally I love the "Gumball Rally". I like the beginning when their racing out of the Garage & There`s the "E-Type" having a heck of a time getting started.

Russ

If I recall correctly, doesn't the E-type stay in the garage the *entire* race? I seem to recall that every now and then, the movie switches back to the two poor guys with the Jag still trying to get it started, and saying reassuring things to one another like, "it really is a beautiful design..."

Shouldn't forget La dolce vita, even if it's only for the sound of the TR3 exhaust note as Marcello Mastroianni drives off into the night.
