Car Hunting Abroad

OK, Heres the deal. My wife is going to Norway for 3 weeks with her Dad, so sometime in the near future, I get a 3 week gettaway abroad.

If you could go to any other country to hunt for servicable 40 to 60 year old british cars to ship home, where would you go?

How would you ship?

Seriously though, I think any of the old British Commonwealth Countries would be fertile ground for old LBC's. Unfortunately the regional weather in many of those Countries is not LBC friendly and they probably rot quickly.

You're being a contrarian. Many of the LBC's you find abroad were originally sold in the US. There are guys who make a living buying cars domestically, loading them into a shipping container and reselling them overseas. I suspect there is just a better supply of these vehicles here in the US.

Canada is a good place if you're looking for a saloon car. New Zealand is supposed to be quite good for Minis and such.

I've been thinking New Zealand. From what I understand, the Austin A40 was built as a Touring car in Australia, so that could be an interesting trip. Hate to have to chose between the two.

Ive thought about Canada, but things are leaning towards a January trip, so the southern hemisphere may just be the thing.

When I was in England about 4 years ago, we did a lot of little town hopping by train. Great trip. I was expecting to see a bunch of good ol' LBC's in our travels. Nope. What I did see were mostly MG's and they were expensive-- about 1/2-1/3 of the MG's I saw were GT models.

I, too, recently went to Oxford, Gloucester, and London and saw many MGB GTs. You are right about more rust than USA, but some are VERY well mainatained. I highly recommend doing a search on www.ebay.co.uk for Brit cars before you go...it'll surprise you.
