Car ad 1950

Funny how things change over the years. In 1946 Pop ordered a new chevy coupe, the only car he could get right after the war. One day the phone rings and it was the salesman saying they have a new business coupe available and would he like to see it, if so the salesman would drive it out to the house and pop could drive it. Bottom line pop bought it and we took a 2000+ mile trip in it! Not long after when we got back home, pop ordered a new Buick and sold the Chevy after the Buick came in! Took about a month or so to get it and the ride was like floating on a cloud! 😍

Fenneman! Wow - hadn't thought of him in years.

As I remember You Bet Your Life -

Say the secret word, and you'll win a hundred dollars.

JP, I would say that we have diametrically opposed positions on new cars.

I would have no qualms with driving my fifty-five year old Cadillac across the country tomorrow. Despite the difference in gas mileage, I would find it a much more pleasant experience than driving something new.
I ageee with both of you! (And Tom.) That 55 Cadillac, or 60s Mercedes might not be so fun if it starts to snow, etc. But the style just oozes!!

And I must say that I do regularly think of an 80's Benz (diesel!) or Audi or even an Allante as a DD. I would also love to take a 928 cross country.

You guys are bringing back memories! I had one of these when in the Navy and must say, you couldn't hear the engine running standing outside the car it was so quiet! Quite a nice ride also. PJ

Paul - you had a 1950 Studebaker Commander coupe! What a great looking car.

Standard, or "Studebaker Automatic Drive"?
It had a standard 3 on the tree transmission, Tom. I really liked the car but it didn't have power steering or air either, bought it from a Navy LT. :encouragement:

Wow, just figured out how many years ago that was!
