Re: Call me "The pedaler"

It all comes down to some much needed OT for me. This is generally the slow time of year. So all in all it's a good thing personally. But it's been hectic with all the overblown news reports of the problem. It's got many people in a panic. 5 years I've been with Toyota, I've never seen a local case that fits into the category of these recalls. Closest thing is when customers have poor fitting- aftermarket floor mats and they slide up and get in the pedals (But that issue is not limited to Toyota).
It's just Toyotas turn to be in the fire.
I hear on the news today that Toyota is releasing a fix for the 2010 Prius brakes. That's been frustrating. I can't do anything to change the way those feel right now. I'll be nice to be able to help those folks.
Maybe I'll go back my Pinto into the side of a older Chevy truck while trying to get away from the house fire caused by my Explorer that randomly caught on fire (thankfully it didn't flip over and kill me). Now all I got left to drive is my Corvair.... Hmmmm.... shoulda bought a Tucker.
All the manufacturers have had their issues. Cars are a complicated thing.

Banjo,

Explorer, heck you should have seen the rows of Broncos and F150 with the front ends burnt up in our local auto wreckers yard.

Re: Call me "The pedaler"

I really wonder about the Prius brake bit. My 99 Silverado brakes always acts peculiarly when braking on a dry rough (undulating) surface, long braking distance with the ABS engaged. The kind of surface you have in industrial parts of town where trucks have "pushed up" the asphalt at intersections. I have never have been a big fan of ABS anyway.

The 2010 Prius brake issue is quite different. The Prius uses the electric motor as a generator to supply part of the braking force. This is controlled exclusively by the computer, and it seems that there is some sort of timing issue regarding when the electric motor starts acting as a brake. Ultimately it is more of a "feel" issue than actual braking issue, however given the current critical eye that Toyota finds itself under, this is not surprising.

You nailed it.

Re: Call me "The pedaler"

What is it, 40+ years of making essentially bullet-proof, totally reliable cars and the media gets a hold of a relatively minor problem and blows it into a HUGE issue!

Pure sensationalism, tempest in a teapot.

Toyota does not deserve this, I truly hope it does not hurt their reputation for the long term.

Pure sensationalism. Period. :yesnod:
