Buying car long distance, how should I do this

I have twice done it the other way around, but through a friend who is a dealer, so low risk. I think, though, that it would not be very different from buying a car from the other side of the States. I am sure if you put a post on the relevant British Triumph web forum you would find someone who would be happy to look at the car for you and take various pictures. I know someone in the UK who can arrange shipping. I suspect that if you are just transporting one car it would cost around $2K, but it is possible to put six TRs in a container and half the shipping cost per car. Remember the steering wheel will be on the wrong side!!!

The easiest way is to get a pro to do it. For about $300/350 bucks you can get a huge written report outlining each system of the vehicle and 60+ pics. What's $350. compared to getting ripped off.
I used one while looking for the car I presently own and that $350 saved me from a good looking (POR-paint over rust car)nightmare. They will ride in the vehicle, check fluids for level and consistancy, check vin and all documents,etc. I wouldn't do it any other way. As much money as we spend on this hobby saving a few hundred bucks is a false economy.
The TR3 I eventually bought sight unseen thru an inspector was actually better than I thought it would be as he was more critical than I. The seller also dropped the price when certain issues were pointed out and articulated (he honestly didn't know in this case). I wouldn't hesitate to do it again as these guys charge the same to look at an Aston Martin Zagato as they do a VW and have the background.
