Shannon, Thanks, its walnut if anyone is interested, to match my walnut steering wheel and shift knob. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif The walnut is about 1/4" thick and the rest is made up of three different layers to give it extra strength and flexibility.

Bob, I'm still seeing my photo pull up on a few different computers and browsers
 
If I were you guys I'd find this 'Gaston' and demand, at the very least my original back.

Geez, and at the time I was feeling bad about having discarded my old wood dash. It really frosts me when someone does something like this, whether by mischief or just good old stupidity.

I assume you guys have his name and phone number? Both, I seem to recall, are in the archives.

Checked the archive... possibly Gaston Blanc of Weirton, WV -- phone number 304-374-0750. Seemed like a nice guy in the posts, was on the Forum for 14 days then poof!

Well, I guess I should feel fortunate. I have sent three dashes to Gaston, and got all three back. They have been relaminated with cherry wood and are quite nice. I don't know the guy and certainly have no financial interest in him, just relating my experience. I sent him the dashes and it did take quite a while, several emails and some phone calls to get them back. I think he went into the whole thing with good intentions but has been caught up with some health issues. All I can say is KEEP TRYING. You should get your dashes back. I don't think he is trying to scam you, I think he took on more than he could handle.
I'll try to post some pictures of my dashes.

I would not make a dash or purchase one out of solid wood, your asking for cracking at some time. best to use the old plywood base and re vener it. and clear coat and finish the back and edges. I do wood working and solid is more expensive and prone to cracking, know by experience
 
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif I've seen plenty of solid wood dashes crack as well. Usually just outside of the eyeball vents. Which is why I asked the friend that made my dash to make it layered. The layers behind my Walnut are plywood. Depending upon the wood though some solids might be okay. But a solid 'hardwood' dash, like Teak, is asking for trouble eventually.
 
bcliff, was there a return address or anything on the dashes he sent back to you? If you can find it pm it to some of the less fortunate members who are still waiting to get theirs back....

Hi guys, I also sent my dash to Gaston. He said he was not in the best of health, this was feb. or march. I talked to him one day and he could hardly talk, he wears an o2 tank and said it wasn't getting enough air in his blood stream. thats the last I talked to him. Didn't send him any money, he told me just pay when he was done. I've tried many times to get a hold of him since, his cell phone was shut off about may. I have been keeping an eye on e-bay to see if my dash might show up. thanx Jim

We'uns down here in the "True South", (still PO'ed about the war ), wouldn't be acting that way. Not only would we have fixed your whatever but would have mowed your lawn and fixed you a good gumbo to take home with you. We speak slowly, often mixing our antonyms and homonyms with "how's-your-mom-and-thems", work diligently and don't take life too seriously. Oh, by the bye, I really do like your throttle cable.
