Bumpers from Moss Motors

The referral for Plating in LA is:

Christensens Plating
2455 East 52nd Street
Vernon, CA
323-585-8730

They are the best, bar none. The do a 100 pt show job and they never lose parts in the bottom of the tank (no matter how small). However you will find that lead time on job finish will be 3-6 months depending on what time of year you use them. From March to October is show season so they are busiest then. Best to take the job to them during the winter. They will also be expensive. However if you want it done right (so you do not need to do it again), and you want to be sure your parts are safe, they are the shop.

Also be sure you fit the bumpers to the car for final fit before having them plated. You do not want to be in the position of having to adjust them to fit after plating.

Hixson metal finishing used to be in the Costa Mesa/Newoport area they are gone now.

Thanks, Keoke. Is it correct to assume that the weight is without the overriders?

Yes the weight is sans overriders. Overriders will come in at ~ 2 Lbs each.---Keoke

This raises an interesting question. How do we tell whether a bumper is original or not? My bumpers need re-chroming also, but if they are repros anyway, why not just buy new repros already plated, and probably cheaper. Are there stampings, thickness measurements, or any other definitive way to sort the old from not so old?
I'm not sure Cutlass, but I think the original has a small semicircle that goes on the top when mounted.

Yes the original bumpers have the small semi circle cut out in the "Bottom" side of the bumper. I do not know if the repos include them also---Keoke

Thanks for correcting me Keoke. The semicircle does go on the bottom, not the top. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thankyousign.gif

Excellent choice! Always go with the original. The after market bumpers are probably from China and if they're anything like their pet food; should be avoided at all cost.

Yes, I read where he "bought the farm", but I wonder if it had anything to do with lousy products or just because he was taking bribes?????
