bumperless big healey photos!!

red57, what is the deal with the lay back windshield and oval grill front end! very interesting to me as an amateur healey follower!

Maxwedge - It's a '57 BN4. Over 20 years ago I made the hood out of fiberglass without the hood scoop because I never liked the scoop (seems to me it was only done to clear the radiator when they changed to the 6 cylinder motor) - I had a custom top radiator tank made so I could make the hood without the scoop. Then, a couple of years later I scored a 100 windshield. I had had a couple of 100s back in the late '60s/early '70s and loved the wind in my face. I also think the 100 windshield is the single most significant feature - no other car ever had one like this and for whatever reason they discontinued it when the six came about. I found that it is almost a bolt-on change. The grill is stock except for removing every other slat. I like the look because it seems to me closer to the original design of the 100. Others will surely disagree but I think I now have the best of both worlds - the smooth power of the six and with the windshield of the earlier four. The other benefit for me is the easy removal of the windshield when I get to the track.

red57...sent you a pm

I'm back at the computer and here are a couple:

I found these on Facebook a few weeks ago. Judging by the exhaust I think the engine mat not be a stock. Striking Healey.

I think the registration plate tells us we're looking at a V8 Nasty Boy from Victoria, Australia. Really nicely done. Being a Nasty Boy afficianado, I've noticed the latest trend seems to be a car that looks mildly modified on the exterior with a lot of mods underneath the outer skin. Note the Bugeye bumperettes in front and back. I like their look, particularly in the rear.

yes, i really like the looks of the sprite bumperettes on the front and rear when mounted very close to the body. might just not use driving lights. also like randy forbes license plate on his healey. thanks for all the posts and please continue with them! i have one of the very large filler caps with a very large cutout...the dual caps dont look to bad but i would only use the one i have!

Regarding HLY-8, I saw this machine at the last two National meets in Victoria & South Australia. This is an extreme example of a Nasty Boy. Built by the owner in partnership with the Kilmartin brothers (yeah, those blokes) it has a 6 litre Holden V8. They even made a badge calling it an Austin-Healey 6000! In fact there is not much Healey left, only the outer body panels.

Thanks, Alwyn.

Any more info online about the car? I looked, but couldn't find anything.

Hi Rick,
I will see what I can find and get back to you.

looking at the cars so far it seems that the height of the mounting and the distance from the body makes all the difference. are they all sprite bumpers or are other bumpers used? i really like the looks of the red healey with the ls engine. the location of the bumpers
seems perfect to me!

If you use Sprite bumpers in the rear, you can mount small or large end up and at various heights. The higher you get (more protection), the further you must mount from the car to get boot lid clearance. Also, the standard muffler exit points for either a BJ7 or BJ8 style exhaust tips will interfere with the rear bumperette, requiring exhaust modification.
