BugEye - Speed Bleeders

I bought 4 speed bleeders from a local speed shop and installed them in our BE: they're Russell Part Number 639590; and 3/8 x 24 NF thread. They fit all four wheels.

Note that if you're bleeding an empty system, you may want someone to have a look at the clear plastic tubing you've got connected to the bleeders to see if there's any bubbles.

I pumped a fair bit of fluid through to get it all filled up etc. but the pedal was still soft, so enlisted my wife to pump and there was a small stream of bubbles in the right front wheel. Pedal is quite firm now, but might have to change a slave cylinder, so won't worry about final bleeding until then.

Doing the brake fluid change every couple of years will be a piece of cake with them now. For the other BE, I might find someone who makes stainless ones and order them.

Doug, I installed speed bleeders 2 years ago, money well spent

what a time and aggravation saver they are, they get my full recommendation !!!

also put one on the clutch slave, that's where the real time and aggravation savings are seen.

I've got them on the Tunebug (w/ front discs and the later rear drum setup). The only issue I had was with the initial bleed from a completely dry system. Had to swap the old bleeder back onto the clutch to get fluid to flow initially. Did the same with one rear brake bleeder -- to get fluid into the lines -- then all worked as expected.

Haven't finished up the brakes yet, but the clutch is good and firm and I didn't have to rope my wife into helping.
