Use white truck liner on the bottom of the car if you intend to drive it.

Truck liner was used in rear wheel arches right from the factory and painted white over top.

White you shall have.

I'd like to ask about 3 areas not listed, where my cherry red 1960 bugeye differs from most photos of refinished Sprites that I have seen.

I've had my car since 1969 and all but the exterior skin is the original paint. The heater box is painted a bronze color; the steering levers appear to have been yellow, and the lever shock absorbers are bare aluminum. I see most restorations with all of these items painted black, except for 1 example with the yellow lever arms.

Also- on the original leaf springs- was each leaf painted? Mine do not appear to have been.

I ask because a suspension rebuild will include repainting all these items. The heater box I've removed and will also repaint.

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Some steering arms were yellow and as far as i know all lever shocks were unpainted. Never seen any but a black heater thou.

Thanks for the replies re the heater box. I can't figure out how to post an image- suffice it to say the inside is black, but the outside is more a copper color paint. Maybe it was repainted early on, but hard to imagine why.

Michael

Heater box black. Stearing arms could have been a color other than black but not real likely. Shocks should be plain alum.

I like the under body painted the same as the body.
Here's mine all dirty.

It's not white but the light blue shows dirt/road grime
about as bad.

Preaty darn nice under there Grundy.

I can't seem to find the thread where the correct Moss paint code is for the steel wheels. Can anyone help? I think it is 220-560, but want to be sure...

They identify as Wheel: Silver Gray. 220-560

That is what I used on Miss Agatha. It is a great match. Two cans is enough for 5 wheels both sides.

Ford Argent Silver in spray cans, available in auto parts stores is also a good match.

That's good to know, thanks.

I used a Chevy Argent Silver. I've heard good things about Eastwood's Argent Silver as well.

Are the following items supposed to be black (gloss or semi?):

1. Master cylinder
2. Pedal box and blanking plate on other side
3. Steering rack and tie rods

Also, are the radiator upright supports black or body color? i've seen them both ways.

Fred

Master Cylinder was not painted. Natural casting.

Pedal box and blanking plate, Black

Steering rack and tie rods Black

Radiator uprights are painted car color. They are welded to the body. A good rule of thumb.

Is that beautiful or what, almost makes me tear it down and restore it again.
