This is one of the worst-documented adjustments in the whole manual. Yes, there is a spec for pedal free movement, but it doesn't tell you how to measure it. Also, there are two adjustments--the pedal stop and the pushrod length. They have different effects.
Because of this dilemma, I've had to worry it out myself, and I'm still not sure I've got it really right--but it does work OK. The pedal stop essentially sets the amount of travel. This should be 0.4-0.5 inches at the master cylinder. Then, the pushrod is adjusted so it is just short of the point (like, 1/16" or so) where the pressure starts to build up as you push it into the cylinder. This point is a little difficult to assess--there is a fraction of an inch where the MC's piston moves but it doesn't move any fluid to the clutch. (It goes back into the reservoir.) The idea is to get past this point. Now, I have an aftermarket MC, so, to complicate the matter, yours may be a little different.
If you get this wrong, you might not have enough motion at the slave to release the clutch completely. You don't want so much motion, however, that something hits its limit of its travel.
If you figure out a better way to do this, please let me know.
Good luck!
