I found a Bugeye in the Knoxville, TN area and was wondering if any locals might be able to check it out? I'm still in the market for one that will pass muster with this group! I should have the details by the end of the day. Thanks in advance, Rut

Rut,

I found your comment about "passing muster with this group" as comical. I can think of a lot of symbolisims regarding that comment. I have found with us that if it has a wheel and possibly a fender someone out there is willing to resurect it. I am amazed at the phoenixs that have risen from this very dedicated group.

Best of Luck,

Mark

Mark, I've been on the hunt for awhile looking at MGBs, Bugeyes,TR4 and 4As, TR3s, etc. My practicle side says get a semi modern car, but I've always wanted a Bugeye! I've gone thru the TR3, 4A, and 6 when I was in my teens and 20s and I must have forgotten a lot of the pain...I only remember the good times. The various cars I've linked here don't quite add up to the asking price after everyone gets thru and solid cars are hard to find, so 'passing muster' is a term that is relative to me and my skills or lack thereof! Just like everyone else, I would like to find the rust free, all original, whatever floats my boat, LBC...for $500.00, but it ain't gonna happen. Instead, I plod on hoping to find a decent car that won't kill me...an LBC that I can work on myself, enjoy, and get satisfaction out of restoring. The Bugeye in Knoxville is a '59, white/red with minor damage that looks like I can do something with. It's owned by a fellow named Jerry that is selling off his cars, one by one, and if this car is ok and I can get a decent price, I'm gonna buy it. Then I gonna shine it up, get it running, and drive around like a kid again! Sorry for getting so long winded, but I lack faith in my abilities to judge these things and their value. Ray, I'll send you the contact info and you can let me know if it's close enough to run by. Thanks for everyones help and I hope this one works out! Rut

Do you know the address in Knoxville? Before this BE gets to Tuscaloosa we could put a little orange and white on it. Go Vols!!

Ray, nothing would tick these folks off more than that, not even my Orange and Blue...how about Vol Orange racing stripes on the white car? Rut

I'm meeting with Jerry McGinnis on Friday to check out the car. I'll take lots of photos and send them to you that evening. Need an email address.

<span style="font-style: italic">"Why don't you just post the picts here? This sounds intresting, even from this distance. We love projects, and can maybe give some back-seat evaluation."</span>

Good idea. I'll post them to the forum.

The Bugeye was one of six British cars in their garage. TVR, MGTD, MGB, TR6 and MGA Coupe. All are for sale. The Bugeye is a late 1960 AN5L46941. OEW with red trim. Part of the original floor mat and inner door panels were still present. Some body damage to the rear particularly on the passenger side and a little around the filler tube. A fair amount of rust through on the driver side floor and at least one silver dollar sized hole on the passenger side floor. Tire are gone. Engine looks original but no engine number plate so can't be certain. Car started after some effort. Oil pressure was a stable 50 psi. Fresh oil leak on passenger side of engine after running. Bonnet looked okay with only one small dent near the grille on the passenger side. Rockers appeared to be okay. Original handura boot liner was in place and in relatively good shape. Some mods to the switches on the dash. Rear tire on the drivers side was flat. With that in mind the rear seemed to sit a little low regardless. I have a few more photos that were too large for Flikr if anyone is interested.

Rut you have a PM

Any idea on the condition of the rear spring hangers? Looks like it has potential.

I like it, but would depend upon the price of course.

Car sat too low in the rear to be able to tell.

Ray, thanks again for your help! I'll contact Jerry and see what he's willing to do. He'd already sold 2 MG TDs in the past month and has several other cars he's going to part with. All are a little high in price, but you got to start somewhere! Rut
