Checked Moss for BSF bolts and was surprised to find, compared to other distributors, their $1.99ea short bolt looks like crap! I wouldn't use these on my lawnmower! My local hardware store has much better quality bolts than this. Why do they buy this junk and sell it to us as a quality part! This is why I use British Tool and Fastener for bolts, cheaper and much higher quality!

Paul - where'd you find that picture? I sure hope someone at Moss takes the hint!

Say, does your local hardware store actually sell BSF bolts? That's unusual.

This was what popped up on their website, I put the highlights on. No Tom my local hardware store doesn't sell British sizes, but all their other bolts are much better looking than this Moss bolt.
 
The last batch of bolts as a set was from Brown & Gammons in the UK, the quality and plating looked very close to the original since cadmium isn't allowed anymore, plus their washers are plated and of the proper thickness and size. If I need a bunch, I get them from B&G. Delivery time isn't that far off from US distributors. (y)
 
Thanks Paul. If that photo of the dodgy bolt was on Moss's own website ... somebody at Moss should be sacked!
 
Sorry to be so cynical, but;
Maybe it just shows how much they really care?
 
The accuracy and quality of so many things has gone downhill. I suppose the tiny amounts made in comparison to nearly everything else is to blame. After all, not like most manufacturers will lose big bucks or have high visibility for a so so product for the small customer base we are around the world.
 
But I see no excuse for the second rate items like the jamb nuts for the MGB valve adjustment screws. I bought fifty stainless ones from a fastener house for a few dollars more than eight of the ill-fitting "specific to purpose" ones from a stateside vendor.

I will say the "Classic Gold Authentic Reproduction" parts I've gotten have been really good. From water pumps to electrical switches. Wouldn't hesitate to use anything with that label.
