T-Series brake light switch

i have 1960 mga and want to replace the brake light switch and need to know the size of the socket to use the new switch is 22mm but the old one is different. thanks ron
 
You should be able to take it out with a pair of channel locks. It is a pipe thread, so after the first half turn or so, it should spin right out. But for the correct size, that I am not sure.
 
thanks for the response but the space is verry tight. iam also worried that i might twist the x fitting off or the lines. ron

EDIT: ~IF~ you have an OEM switch it is a deep 1" socket which fits.
 
i tried a 1" sae and it slips off. a spanner works but i am afraid it will twist off the pipes. ron
 
Let's see if I can do better than my last post - "Should take a socket", indeed. I intended to write should take a 1" socket. Since you find that a 1" SAE socket is slipping off, I would suggest one of two things. Try a 6 point socket rather than a 12 point. If that doesn't work, or you can't find a 6 point socket, try a 25mm socket. The across the flats measurements of a 1" socket is 1.006" - 1.015" and a 25mm measures 0.990" - 0.999". The next smaller size is a 31/32" socket, but you would probably have to search the antique stores to find that size.
