Brake light switch

Is it really necessary to unbolt and lift the whole pedal box to get the brake light switch out of a 1973 Midget? If so, can this be done without having to disconnect the hydraulics?

What a great design!

I replaced mine on a 79 midget. Yes you have to unbolt the whole thing, but I didn't have to disconnect any hydraulics or any other connections.

On my 78 the top of the box comes off. Maybe that's what you were referring to?

I took the top off, but it really wasn't necessary. The way the switch is built there is no room to turn it as it sits. I only had to raise it up a couple inches.

You can always dent the inner fender for a bit of clearance.
But yes, loosen the pedal box and lift it up a little to remove the switch.

I definetly thought about breaking out the BF hammer. I mean, who is going to know?

Mine turned in without all that.
Seems to be a later model Lucas part.

See it here: Brake Switch

Working great too!
