Bought a car

Well, it took 30 years since I purchased my first Triumph, but I'm finally expanding the fleet. I've purchased a 1981 TR8. It turns out this car was being built about the time that I bought my first Triumph. And the big news in England while she was being built was Charles & Diana's wedding, the big news when I get it will be William and Kate's wedding (OK, perhaps a stretch).

I won't actually have the car for another week, but if everything goes as planned, I should get her on April 30th.

It is going to be a very long week.......

Darrell...Did you finally get to see the car?
Looks like you really scored with this one!
I would say you had better be taking the little lady out to a Easter Dinner at the place of her choice...with the Little Lady wearing her new Easter dress! Very cool. Gil NoCal

Hi Gil,

I have not seen the car in person myself. I did find that a friend of mine was in the area, and he took a look. Not really a car guy (though his mom had a TR7), but did confirm that it is as clean as it looks.

Had a couple of chats with Peter and Justin, and figured even if I went down there, I wouldn't pass on it.

So just after William and Kate's wedding then... It will still be big news over here.

How do you know it's a her? I thought TR8s had balls.

From my experience someone will likely get offended by that. But I agree with you. :yesnod:

Someone will always get offended by something. Maybe I should have added brass to the expression.

By the way, I chatted with the driver bringing the car up. He says he has been swamped -- taking cars to ports to be shipped overseas. He said most of them seem to be going to Sweden.

Very Nice, I'm sure you'll love it. The 81's all had EFI and pointless ignition, all you have to do is drive the wheels off it. And the 7's and 8's are relatively comfortable. Have Fun

You're a lucky man, Darrell. Lovely car, even today the styling looks great.

Keep us informed of your restoration efforts, with photos! :yesnod:
