Bosch alternator

Thanks for all the comments and opinions. I considered all of them and they gave me an excellent basis for the questions I asked Mike at my alternator shop.

I have decided to go with a new Lucas A127-70 alternator. Some of my reasons were:
1) It is new, not rebuilt.
2) The original Lucas alternators were bad. The Bosch/Fiesta units are better but still not great. The new Lucas is used on modern cars like some models of the Mini w/fuel injection. It is also used for industrial applications by companies like Perkins.
3) It is readily available. Possibly more important to me because of how we (Shirley and I) will be using our car.

I am not to concerned with the existing wiring handling the increased load. Partly because the load is actually not going to change much. Probably only after starting the car and the initial battery charge restoration, if even then. After all, my original Lucas does just fine and I am only replacing it because it is old and I don't trust it. None of the other electrical components will change. Although I might put my radio back in.
This site explains some of the reasons.

The only change I may make would be to go to a #6 wire from the alternator to the positive battery cable.

Thank you, Beavis.

I bought it from Finicki Auto Electric in Madison. It will cost more than eBay but he also spent a lot of time helping me and he stands behind his products. I believe service has value so the choice was easy.
You can google "A127-70".
Paul, I just purchased some SAE design specs for the other project.

Dumb, Dumb, Dumb!!

That's me of course, not anyone out there.

I posted the wrong company info, because the site above was way too expensive. This is the correct link to the NEW OEM Lucas, 72 Amp that I found last year, AFTER the other 55 amp was on the car. I was quoted $115.00 plus $9.87 freight to ship to MA. last February.

Oh Man!!How do I make that my avatar?

You can use a photo, do a photo shop pic, or draw your own like I did. Mine is a 80px x 80px .jpg file

I meant the animated head banging Beavis and Butthead. I'm guessing that's a flash animation. An animated avatar, that would be cool, heh, heh, heh.

(He said, "banging" heh, heh heh,)
