I take it the boot seal goes all the way round the boot, even where the flat 90 degree edges are ? which way does the sealing edge face ?
 
The boot seal mounting edge has a shape that is similar to the groove around the Shroud. The outboard side has a rounded shape the Butt ends of the seal are located at the bottom centered on the boot's lock.To install it a good trim adhesive such as 3M will be required and it will be neccessary to tape it in place until the adhesive sets. I bought a new seal and fitted it but something is not right, should the seal run down the flat edges on either side of the boot ? have i got it the wrong way round ? can't seem to get my head round it, unless i have the wrong seal.

Does anyone have a picture ?
 
Did you install the seal on the boot lid as has been pointed out by two other listers above. If uou have a factory parts list it isshown installed on page BD2--Keoke

Perhaps i'm just being daft, but the seal seems to snag on the two side edges of the boot where the edges are turned 90 degrees, i may have the wrong seal or perhaps just fitting it wrong, perhaps the picture may shed some light on it.

Sorry Rob, that doesn't look like any seal I've seen before.
Most when looking at the seal from one end are flat on the bottom and a "scoop" on the top. The flat portion is glued to the boot lid. That way the boot will seal when it is closed. I installed mine by first taping the seal around the shroud opening with the flat side facing up. Then I applied glue on both the flat side of the seal and on the boot. When the glue is dry, slowly and carefully lower the boot lid onto the seal. Now you can remove the tape from the shroud and lift up the boot lid and remove the remainder of the tape. Minor adjustments can be made but the bootlid should always seal correctly.

I'm not too sure from your picture but I recall that the seal goes all the way to the edge of the boot and does not turn in like yours. I also think you have the wrong seal. Mine is like a "U" with one side longer. It does not fit on the edge as yours appears to.

I'd better check i have the right seal first, it was ordered from a Healey supplier but woudn't be the first time that someone has sent me out the wrong part and totally confused me !!

It seems i have an uprated seal that is meant to fit round the rear shroud lip, there's the problem then.

Wow-we!
Looks like my efforts to help fellow Healey owners has made it all the way to the UK. I believe that's the photo I took some time back, for someone else, about this same question. Yup, that paint crack under the screw is still there. I should touch that up!
