I don't have a photo because I'm not at the area yet but it sits right below the glovebox. If you have straightened it thinking it was bent and needed correcting, you'll have to rebend it back to where it (probably) was orginally bent.

Note well the grommet popped out of the bracket.

Two things can account for that.

1] The grommet is old and tired.
.
2] the handle was not aligned and bent properly,

NO Rich but it involves the under bonnet alignment of the rod and the additional rod support and grommet there also.---Keoke

Did they change the handle for the BJ8, it looks like my BN7

Look even better and you see the heaterhose is disconnected from the engine ... still some work to do ...

The grommet is torn, the rod is still oké

The pull rod is actually the same part from the earlier roadster models, but with the BJ8 the grommet through the bulkhead is about 4" lower to help it clear the glove box liner on the inside of the car. Also the previous models have a shorter welded steady bracket up higher under the dash, while the BJ8 eliminates that and installs the lower bracket shown in the previously posted picture. Out on the bulkhead (firewall)the earlier grommet and rod position is simply plugged on the BJ8.
