BN4 Hard Top

when i replaced the rear window in my bn6 hardtop a few weeks ago, it was really startling to see how flimsy the top is even without the rear screen. i would try to determine if the aluminum framework is warped. do you know the history of the hardtop? sometimes fenderbenders do more damage than one would notice at the time...especially if the hardtop was kocked loose!

I agree with what Max says and the Nical top I bought for my 100 was so flimsy that until I affixed two stabilizer bars to span and triangulate the rear window aperture it was impossible to install the window itself--sort of like pushing against Jello.

As to the top in question perhaps it was modified to fit a car that was itself modified--those are big gaps that need to somehow be made up.

Many years before the turn of the century one of our local Healey aficionados built a car with DD300 as his inspiration, and won his class in the Carrera Panamerica. Amongst other modifications he shortened the windscreen and posts. The car had a hardtop last I saw it, jammed in the corner of a barn covered with layers of dust. Whether he adjusted the hard top to fit, or changed back the windscreen and posts I do not know. All I know is that that was one badass looking triple Weber screamer. Perhaps this top suffered a similar fate?

elrey, you may have solved the mystery. Pete on another AH forum has a 100-6 that he cut the windscreen down by about 2" I believe. If he wanted to mount a hardtop, he would have to modify the profile of the bottom to fit the lowered windscreen. That certainly could explain the big gap in the hardtop.
