ok i finaly poped off the old mk1 grill, it think it was added in a resto.
to put on the proper mk2 grill with 3.4 badge. and there as i supected the crumpled up cloth at the bottom of the radiator was a window blind so a spring loaded (rusty) dowel with a heat reflective cloth. and a broken wire at the top.
was this a factor option in 1967 to keep the heat in on a cold day. the car is right hand drive so was built for the UK and ect...

and do you think the late mk1 grill was orignal to the car beening a late base model car and maybe just any old stock beeing used up.
 
Yours is a 67. LONG out of MKI production. No, not used up old stock. Somebody liked the grille, or an accident required replacement and that was handy.
Never seen a shutter on radiator factory, nor any reference in my J.33 parts manual.
 
yeah I couldnt fine anything about the window blind, my concern is that it traps dirt that then holds water that then leads to rust.
yeah the car is a 340 and has been restord once ... now im doing it,

Ok, going to show my age here. These shades and other forms, (the '37 MG had a vinyl shield with clips to have it have open and fully closed, out side of the grill. The European countries used these to keep cold air from going over the radiator, ie warm up the car faster. These were the days before very proficient thermostats. Much of it was aftermarket. My father in-law just used a bit of cardboard.

my buddy with a morgan says he might have one in his shed so If thats in working order I will replace it other wise i will remove it.
yeah im doing the thermosate now.....well when the nuts get done marinating in wd40.
