Bret: This doesn't apply to your blind date, but things happen in the weirdest of ways. I met my current girlfriend in one of those weird ways - it was online, but not a chat room or dating service, nothing of the sort - and we were not looking for someone to date. After a short time we both felt a weird connection, then started talking loosely about it. We're about an 18 hour drive apart so it wasn't easy to find an excuse to just meet for the sake of meeting, and neither of us was pushing for any kind of relationship beyond being friends.
There was a convenient reason to meet 3-4 months after we first bumped into each other, and we hit it off from the first glance, and it has been better than I could ever have imagined. People cannot believe what a "perfect" match we seem to be. We're the kind of couple that does incredibly strange things like... out of the blue one day I text messaged her "what would you do for a klondike bar"; just before I sent that she was thinking about getting a klondike bar - yet neither of us ever talked about them or even ate the things. It's been that kind of relationship constantly for three years.
For one reason or another she sort of broke up with me 5-6 weeks ago (no tears please, we're trying to figure things out), then over the weekend I spent two days with her. At one point we went to a store and I saw something 'cute' and grabbed it on the way out for her. She just shook her head because she was just about to grab it to buy me.
We've never been able to figure out any of this stuff...except for the breaking up (which I think is just a little bump in the road that she needs to deal with), we're an amazing match for each other - yet we met in the oddest of ways, 1000 miles apart, and without ever looking for each other.
Life...is strange.
