blasted fuel gauge

Okay--I took some readings with the volt meter connected to all three connection points on the back of the gauge. Does this make any sense to any one? I seem to think that the gauge itself is not working correctly. The battery is a bit low due to leaving the ignition on over night. (No the points were not connected.)

Thoughts?

Grounded = yes
Bat = 11.5 volts (explained with battery being low)
Tank = 1.85 volts
 
Would anyone mind taking a reading from the two posts on the back their gauge? At least I can see how far off mine is. I am trying to eliminate either the gauge or the sender being bad.
 
Figuring as how my cousin is an engineer for GM he new exactly what to do. He had me take about 9 readings from the back of the gauge--came inside and created an excel graph and decided that I was correct in thinking that it is in fact my gauge. The sending unit is grounded and working as it should. The gauge is not. Back off to Nisonger it will go to take advantage of the warranty.

Okay,
Nisonger received my fuel gauge and called me today. The fuel gauge is bad and he said it happened because of something on my end--probably the sending unit. The gauge is fried. He believes that the ground was intermittent and caused the gauge to fry itself.

Please help! What in the world could be the problem?
