BJ8 Spedometer problems

I have a similar problem to the topic posted for "62BT7 Speedometer Problems". My speedometer will reach the right speed if I keep a steady speed 55+ for a while but doesn't go back down at slower speeds. Can this be caused by the cable?

I read about checking for the washer at the right angle drive end. Is there also a washer or O ring at the speedometer end? Based on the previous replys, sounds like I should fix sooner than later.

Yes Johnski, A kinked, worn or unlubricated cable could cause that problem.---Fwiw--Keoke

Thanks, seems like I just lubricated it several thousand miles ago though

Relating to the speedometer:

My speedometer may not be reading the correct speed.

I have a navagation unit that also shows current speed.
The nav unit shows speeds higher. Example, Nav reads 70mph and the Healey reads 65mph.

Mine was reconditioned 500 miles ago and my cable is the correct length and new.

How accurate are our speedometers?
Cheers, Roger

Accurate plus or minus about 9% or + or - 5mph at 65 mph. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif
Tire size can make some difference and I would not expect even a reconditioned speedometer to be spot on.
A fair test is to run mile post markings at what reads 60 mph. It should take one minute between the mile posts if you maintain a constant speed. If it takes longer, say 5 seconds, then make a run with the speedo reading 65 mph. If that takes 60 seconds, then you know your speedo reads 5 mph fast. If the first test at 60mph reading takes only 55 seconds, then your actual speed is closer to 70.
