BJ8 Radio and Speakers

HI all, I ran into one of those old folks radios today. It favors the original Healey BMC unit but covers both the AM &FM band . The name of the radio was "Le- Chaperon" it was manufactured in LosAngeles in19??. I could not get a model # as time had taken its toll.There are three connections for the radio: Power +12V, Speaker a couple of wires and of course the traditional antenna connector. I have never heard of this radio before it is mounted in a BJ8 with a blown clutch- I really mean Blown.-FWIW---Keoke

I have found a nice solution to have extended music possibilities in my Healey. I have a Blaupunkt from the 1960s and had in mind to get a CD equiped radio. However did I find a MP3 player, Jens of Sweden MP300 equipped with a small FM transmitter which suits me perfect. I have up to 10 CDs on the MP3 player and it transmitts wireless to the radio in the car.
It turned out to be illegal with the transmitter so the ones sold now is without the transmitter, but I guess there are other brands on the market.
 
Hi Bustren, The world has gotten so sophisticated now that you can leave the old non operational original radio in place.Located in the boot is very upscale unit that has AM/FM as well as MP3 capability, Direct TVand satalite Nav. all that you have in the cockpit with you is a remote control-FWIW---Keoke---Pricy Though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just to let everyone know, after spending some time watching and finally buying an old Becker radio (which works great and looks ever better in my BJ8), I still keep an eye out for them. There's been a pretty good selection available of both old Becker Europas and Grand Prixs, as well as old Blaupunkts, and with a little patience you should be able to get it for around $25 or less. If you should need parts, Becker has a website and sells old parts to their radios going back to the 50s, and their parts guy is okay (you can talk to him, if you know what I mean).
