Bj8 door disassembly

This is my first message on here. I am starting the resoration of BJ8 and presently am dismantling the door as it requires repairing. I have removed the quarter glass and the screws at the bottom of the window track inside the door. I still cant get the quarter glass frame/front window track out of the door. Are there other fasteners to remove? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Mark,
Welcome to the forum.

Remove the outside chrome door waist moulding.
Remove both the inner and outer weather strips.
Remove the door stop glass bracket
Remove the door glass. Pull straight up.


You may see two small screws (on the outside of the door) where the waist moulding was. They screw into the vent window frame. Remove them.
Remove the two screws on the inside top of the door that screw into the vent window frame.
Remove the two screws on the bottom of the vent window frame.
6 screws hold the window assembly to the door.
Now you should be able to pull the entire vent window assembly straight up.

Thanks for the reply. I have only to get the 2 screws on the outside of the frame and the job is done. They seem stuck and wont un-screw. Any Ideas?

Not un-importatant to the restoration of these cars is the art of removing rusted, stuck or broken fasteners. First, try soaking in penetrant as recommended. When that doesn't work, as it most often doesn't, other options are drilling, grinding, swearing, heating, swearing, and oh, did I mention swearing? Oh, I forgot, you can try drilling then breaking off an easy-out, then repeating the above. Seriously, though, these are small screws, and if you have already ruined the heads, go ahead and drill them out.
 
Cutlass is such the optimist. When that doesn't work....
On the other hand, Cutlass is right! Been there and done that.
Oh and the swearing aka cussing...it helps.

Great help thanks! The algorithm in a nutshell.
1 Lots of pentrating oil and then try to loosen
2 If they wont loosen them some swearing and throwing of tools. ( keep some cheap ones near by so you dont wreck an expensive torque wrench or similar oh and dont throw them at the car no matter how tempting it is to do so).
3 More oil and leave soak overnight!
4 Try to loosen them
If screws loosen tidy up thrown tools etc and have a few beers!!
else goto 2

It worked for me but it took a few days af trying at various times. The screws came out ok so now the door is apart and ready for repairs. Ill order the repair panels from Kilmartins today.
