BJ8 console redo?

HI: ask Bruce @ Healey Surgeons I am sure he can help you

Wangdango,

The console on a BJ8 is one of the simplest to upholster as there is no stitching as part of its main covered section (radio area through shifter). I have not only recovered my original console as part of my main refresh back in the late 1980s (and can be seen on pages 90 through 95 of "Austin-Healey 100 & 3000) as well as the slightly wider console I created to accommodate a Bose sound system (below).

The choice is definitely yours to do or not as I don't believe it would require special skills.

Good luck,

Thanks, I will attempt to do it myself, anyone making repops of the chrome console trim (the long strips on each side)?

Done , about 4 hrs including de corrosion and painting the metal shell .
i dont think repros of the edge strips are available . Dont think they are chrome but stainless . Just be careful removing them not to bend/crease them .
1/4 “ foam on the sides before the fabric to give it some cushion. Use spray contact adhesive.

I also did mine but be aware that the small screw studs & nuts on the back of the console that are attached to the metal strips & hold the strips down are almost always corroded & the small studs will ring right off if given a chance ( ask me how I know). So soak them liberally with penetrate & let them sit overnight or more before you attempt to remove the nuts.
