Binge watching Star Trek

I've been binge watching the old Star Trek Original Series. It's amazing how, in the 23rd century, so many ailments could be treated with a hypo full of stimulants! :nightmare:

My little sister made the observation that had us all chuckling: Why don't they have seatbelts on starships? People flying out of their seats across the bridge whenever they encounter some strange anomaly or they get attacked seems to be a recurring problem.

I always chuckle at that too! With as much "rough space" as they encounter, you'd think someone would have thought about strapping in (and maybe also bolting those kitchen dinette chairs to the floor :excitement: )

Also - how would you like to subsist on colored chunks of Play Dough (and milk)?

Sailors do it all the time. The food only tastes like colored Play Dough some of the time.

I recall reading a number of years ago that on Star Trek they always calculated the course and then fed it into the computer - not understanding (yet) that computers could calculate the course.

That'd be only if the computer had already known the URL of the desired destination.

Job security!

One episiode, "The Ultimate Computer" has the Enterprise being totally controlled by the "M5" computer. Of course the M5 doesn't know that the other starships attacking are just playing in an exercise - it trys to destroy the other star ships!

And I love the sounds of internal mechanical switches as the "computer" works. You'd thing by then it would be silent, and no flashing lights....

Early Apple 2?

About a month ago I got the "Star Trek: Enterprise" DVD's. We've been watching a couple episodes an evening. IMHO that was the best of the TV Star Trek incarnations.

I still watch it--one thing I notice now more than I did back in the day, there was a lot variance in the quality. Some are really great, some are pretty lame and or goofy.

Favorite: "City on the Edge of Forever" Joan Collins, time travel, tragedy, it has it all, good drama, great show
"The Doomsday Machine" best "space dram/battle" type episode, lots of others.

Enjoy!

I read at one point that the 3rd season in particular went downhill because they cut something like 60% of the production budget, so they couldnโ€™t get the writing they had before or even the usual 60s special effects.

But hey, it still a least wasnโ€™t Lost in Space with Dr Smith making that โ€œIโ€™m scared nowโ€ howlโ€ฆ.

Indeed - the 3rd season is horrible. Season 1 is best, some of Season 2 is ok, but 3 is just yuck!

All I know is that I CAN"T STAND that commercial with Shatner.
Seems that they play it on almost every channel.

I enjoy seeing thru Star Trek or comic books or whatever what some free thinkers see of the future.
