Better head gasket for a 1500

Hap Waldrop said:
The 1500 racers, what few they are, use a shorter compression height pistons and deck the block enough to get rid of the recessed area in the top of the block, then use a 1300 head gasket. I've built a few race 1500s using TR6 pistons which have a shorter compression height and require block decking, this would be a good way to get your engine back to say 8 to 1 CR and that way you can explore with higher boost levels, at 9 to 1, you going to run into these type issues with forced induction.

Hap, this is the second time you have alluded to the TR6 piston 1500. Perhaps even in a new post (and possibly for the WIKI), could you explain all the pieces of that (in really simple words) I doubt I'd actually do it but it sure interests me.

What I've heard

TR6 Pistons.
1300 Spitfire Camshaft

What I don't understand

What size cylinder bore?
Piston Rods?
Do you keep the thrust bearings?
What Crankshaft?
Is there machining involved for the Camshaft?
How much do you machine to keep compression 8:1?
What do you do with the push rods?

In other words, I want to know it all.

thanks!

~So~, you want to be a know-it-all? :jester:

already that - now I figure I'll flesh it out with some actual knowledge.

You know how it goes - too soon old, too late smart.

JP, this discussion is also going on over at the MG ex Spridget board, so I don't have to type it again, as you all know how well I type right  you could just view it there.

Hap, I must be dense - what (where) is the MG ex Spridget board?
