Best air cleaners/ filters for street

I have started looking at air cleaner and filters. I would like your input and wisdom on the matter. In the VB catalog I have been looking at the K&N part #3-1802, filter #3-1811, or the flat chrome #9-103. I would like to know real world and first hand from you guys. Are they worth the money or what do you recommend. I have stock as of now, which seem to be alittle restrictive to me. I plan on a set of headers, new exhaust and a harley muffler upgrade. I will say I am a sucker for chrome. I come from a Harley and hotrod back ground. So please, any input would be great, thanks.

Truthfully, you can run a variety of K&N elements between a couple of plates and it will do fine for a stock engine, but I wouldn't expect any noticeable difference.

Those look great Trevor. I really dig the script, you have a gift sir. What would a set of those cost? Do they use stock filters?

Thanks, but it requires not talent ... they were made by machine. They are essentially 1/4" aluminium plates that sandwich filters that have the stock diameters. There are about 3-4 filters of different heights that work. I was making them with a home built CNC mill. I'd let it run while I was out in the garage working on other jobs. But the constant noise was irritating and I quit making them.

You could do something similar using the stock base, and some 1/4" aluminium. If you wanted to dress it up a bit, then a sign shop could make a vinyl decal.

Thanks for the tip. They still look killer no matter how you made them. I've been looking at the chrome pancake stlye, I think they are 1.5 inch. I really like they look. I have started degreasing the motor so I can paint it. Thanks for the input and help.

if you put stub stacks inside the filters you WILL notice a difference in power. .. I don't know the exact ones anymore, but aptfast.com has the K&N filters and the stacks. ..

There is a hill on one of my runs nearby. With the old engine and stock filters/cans, I had to downshift to 3rd to make it up the hill. the next day, with stacks and K&Ns, (the 3 inch high ones) I could accelerate up the hill in 4th..... noticeable.

So Bill, do you think it increased the max hp of the engine or just widened the range that the HP was available.

I am no expert on British cars or motors. I have seen better out put on Harley's and My old 392 Hemi with daul 4's by using free flowing exhaust and air filters. I dont feel it added more hp just gave it quicker and over a wider range. I'm going to give it a try and see what happens. Here in the mountains of eastern Kentucky a little more power is always a good thing. I have yet to adjust the carbs. As the car came to us from Florida it would probably benefit from some tuning. It felt stronger across the whole rpm range.... and fuel economy seemed to go up.
