Bending Brake Line

never though about the gloves

great tip

Also, do NOT pour POR-15 out of the can. Use some sort of disposable scooper and ladle it out.

If you get POR-15 in the groove of the can and then put the lid back on, you'll never get it open again. The instructions say to use plastic food wrap as a barrier between the two.

It's good stuff, just treat it like it's radioactive!

ok So here is my plan of attack

Im going to replace the front calipers, rotors, wheel bearings , and the master after i coat the peddle box area with a nice amount of Por 15

i have already replaced both front hoses with braided steel line

have i missed anything?

my wife and i both feel that any money i spend on this will be the most
important money i ever spend on this car

while im at it i might redo the rear brakes as well

Actually I always pour the POR15 out of the can so I don't spoil it with foreign materials. It's really sensitive to that. I spoiled a can early once by stirring it with an old screwdriver. The paint left in the can went bad rather quickly.

To prevent the lid from being permanently sealed shut, put a large piece of plastic wrap on top of the can, then put the lid back and tap it tight. Watch out for splatters when tapping it down! Make sure the piece of plastic wrap is large enough to drape down the sides a little bit.

Ok
Since the master is shot any suggestions on what to do
get a Brand new one?
have mine rebuilt?
get a used one?
or get remanufactured unit?

Thanks ray

Some have said not too but I honed mine out and rebuilt all 3, Clutch & Brake MC's and the Slave. No problems here.

I see NO reason to replace 'em if you're confident about a rebuild. If you hone 'em, check for pitting and scoring, if they're good and smooth it'll work just fine. Rear cylinders are cheap so I'd just replace those. Pro'lly the caliper pistons too.

The honing tool was cheap - maybe $15 at Autozone. Put it in a drill for a bit with some brake fluid as a lubricant and you are good to go.
This is what the hydraulics looked like on my GT when I started:

wow! and you transformed that into the items in the earlier pics?

I hope they work as good as they look!

Well on 6-10-07 I had to lock'emup to avoid someone cutting me off. 4 skid marks behind me when I looked in the mirror. I think they hold real nice for 40 year old brakes. When I get the 74 on the road I'll compare the 2 and let ya know if I am still happy.

I think it passed th' Q.C. test, Vinny! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Naa, that's tipical for orginal stuff after 30 years.

very nice work

but rebuilding my own while cost effective
is very past my skill level i was leaning toward getting a rebuilt master from Apple Hydraulics

I never attempted anything like this before I did what I have shown you in the pics and Apple is down the road from me (well about a 40 minute drive). I took my time and the $$ spent was well worth it. I had a team of enthusiasts right here online and they helped me through it if I trouble. In face, I really did not do much stuff myself other pads, plugs & wires & such. I go the GT on April one and by end of may I had rebuilt all the hydraulics, starter generator, carbs, gas tank pulled wire wheels blasted & on & on. I never thought I would do so much but always dreamed of it.

Geez, Vince! You did the work, took the time to ask and work thru ALL of it! We were just the "cheerleaders"!

There would not be any cheerleaders in the world if they were not a vital part of a team. Oh crap that was cheesy. I'm up past my bed time. nighty night rabbit!zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

meh.

nite-nite! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

Cheerleaders have nothing to do with winning a game. They are there to get people in the seats. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
